At the Movies
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009It turns out that I really like going to the movies. I enjoy the atmosphere, the surround sound, the letting go of everything for two hours. The last movie I saw
was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (a thoroughly enjoyable movie, though as a huge fan of the books, I was a tad disappointed).
Before that I saw Disney-Pixar’s UP (another FANTASTIC movie). I think I am going to go to the movies more often, since I seem to enjoy it so much. I’m really excited to see the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie, and especially the new Tim Burton effort ‘9’.
The thing is, I don’t think I’m really cut out to go the movies with someone else. The last two movies I went to were with friends, and afterwards, each time, both friends had silly nitpicky things to say about the films that really diminishes the experience for me. It’s not like I couldn’t have silly nitpicky things to say myself (um, HP6 practically glossed over what I think are the most important parts of the book!), but I don’t need to hear it right after the movie, because that’s not the point of going.
Earlier in the spring, I went to see Star Trek by myself, and I had a wonderful time. I laughed, I sat at the edge of my seat, It was fun. As a mini-Trekkie myself, I wasn’t too hung up on similarities and differences to canon, because that isn’t the point.
I guess I go into the movies without expectations. I can deal with the thinking later.
